Our story began when the M A D founders were studying the Bauhaus movement of the early 20th century and its far reaching influence on modern art and design. Bauhaus in German literally translates to “house of building” and it was an art school founded by architect Walter Gropius. Its core objective was to reimagine the material world to reflect the unity of all the arts. The practical crafts: architecture and interior design, textiles and woodwork, were placed on par with fine arts such as sculpture and painting.
